About DNS Tools
DNS Tools runs external diagnostics on public DNS, email, network and web configuration and explains the evidence in plain language.
What DNS Tools is
DNS Tools is a set of external diagnostics. You enter a domain, a host name or a public address and see what could be observed from outside: DNS records, email authentication, mail transport, reachable ports, certificates and web security headers.
It is built for two kinds of reader at once. A business owner should be able to see in a sentence whether something needs attention. An engineer should be able to open the same result and find the exact records, answers and timings behind that sentence.
- Forty single-purpose tools, grouped as DNS, email, network and web tools.
- One domain assessment that combines the main layers into a single overview.
- Guides that explain the problems the tools find and how to change the configuration safely.
Who operates it
DNS Tools is a product of Spectra Technologies India Private Limited and is hosted on SpectraCloud (spectracloud.com). The assessment engine underneath is called Spectra, which is why pages carry the line Powered by Spectra.
Questions, privacy requests and problem reports go through the contact page.
How the checks work
Every check is deterministic. It sends a fixed set of questions to public DNS servers or opens bounded connections to public hosts, records the answers, and applies written rules to them. The same input and the same answers produce the same wording, so a result can be repeated and compared.
Evidence and interpretation are kept apart. The tables on a result page are what was observed: records, addresses, certificate fields, header values, with times. The statements above them, such as Pass, Improve, Risk or Unknown, are the rules applied to that evidence.
When a lookup times out or a server refuses to answer, the result says so. A failed lookup is shown as Unknown, never as a missing record and never as a clean result.
What you receive
Results are shown on screen without an account. If you want to keep them, a PDF report can be requested; it is created from the saved result and delivered only to an email address you have verified. See Reports for what each report contains.
What it does not do
- It is not a penetration test and not an internal vulnerability scan. It reads public configuration at one moment from one vantage point.
- It does not exploit anything, guess credentials, match software versions to vulnerability lists or test systems that are not publicly reachable.
- It does not prove that mail will be delivered or that a website is secure. A good result describes the configuration that was observed, nothing more.
- It does not use artificial intelligence to produce or judge results. The findings come from the written rules described above.
Reporting a problem
If a result looks wrong, use the Report an issue link on the result page. It sends us the reference of that run, so we can look at exactly what was observed. You can also write through the contact page.
Please do not send passwords, keys or private message content. Pasted email headers are analysed for the request only and are not stored with the result.
